The city of Montreal
Founded in 1642 Montreal is an historic site of the colonisation of America through the St-Lawrence river and the big lakes and the main french city in North America.
It is located at the limit of the navigable waters of the river as the Lachine rapids were stoping the ocean ships to go further. Until the construction of the Lachine Canal and of the St-Lawrence waterway all the ships had to stop in Montreal.
Today Montreal is a modern 1 million inhabitants city (2.5 million for the whole metropolitan area). Montreal island is 40 km long by 15 km wide.
The main attractions are the Old Montreal, the St-Lawrence river, the Mont Royal and of course the Montrealers who are quite open to the world and very different of the standard north american.
